Comparison of the Trimble MX9 and the Trimble MX50 mobile mapping systems 11 Laser orientation Both systems have laser orientation defined according to a so-called "butterfly configuration". The lasers of each system are vertically and horizontally tilted with respect to the vehicle frame. This configuration provides better coverage and detection of surrounding features. In the MX9 system, the user can reorientate the lasers in different horizontal and vertical positions. The MX9 system offers three different horizontal and vertical positions. MX9 lasers opening angles Reorienting the lasers requires a new LiDAR boresight calibration, which can be done using the Trimble Business Center software. Reorienting a laser may be needed for specific mission requirements or because of the type and shape of the used vehicle. In the MX50 system, the position of the lasers is fixed. The following picture shows the scans patterns for the MX9 (on its laser's default positions) and the MX50 system: "Butterfly configuration" for Trimble MX9 and Trimble MX50 mobile mapping systems
