Smarter infrastructure inspections: combining mobile mapping and ground penetrating radar

With an increasing number of road networks seeing their quality deteriorate, it becomes more important to be smarter about how we inspect these networks. Mobile mapping systems are invaluable for capturing rich, high-accuracy reality capture data, including point clouds and high-resolution imagery of both ground and above-ground conditions. Also important, ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems provide a critical view beneath the surface, uncovering hidden conditions that are key to fully understanding and maintaining road infrastructure. By combining Mobile Mapping with GPR systems, it is possible to create a comprehensive 3D digital twin of both above- and below-ground assets. In this webinar, we explore how KONTUR’s GPR systems have been combined with data from the Trimble MX90 Mobile Mapping system to enhance road inspections. Real-world examples are presented and discussed.
