IBSS with Trimble Access v2023.10: Internet is Better than Radio
Trimble® Access™ 2023.10 software offers an exciting new feature for surveyors using GNSS systems—the Trimble Internet Base Station Service (IBSS). This service provides a straightforward and efficient way to stream RTK corrections over the internet from a base station to rovers. With IBSS, you can set up your GNSS receiver as a base station and automatically stream RTK corrections via Trimble Connect cloud software to any rover that is also using IBSS in the same project.
The best part? You don't need to configure a corrections server. Simply choose IBSS as your base data link, and you're good to go. As many rover receivers as required can use the RTK corrections provided by IBSS within the Trimble Connect project, making it an incredibly flexible and scalable solution.
IBSS offers several key benefits, provided you are in areas with internet connectivity. IBSS provides superior range compared to traditional radio-based systems, and is not affected by physical obstructions like buildings or hills that can block radio signals. IBSS also provides increased bandwidth to support more satellites and all constellations, resulting in greater accuracy in the field and improved performance around obstacles such as trees and buildings. IBSS is an excellent solution for customers looking to set up permanent bases in their local regions, as it allows them to easily share their RTK corrections with all surveyors in their company. IBSS also eliminates the need for surveyors to carry and set up radio equipment on site, saving them valuable time and reducing the risk of theft.
Connecting a base receiver to the IBSS service is easy. Here are the steps you need to follow:
-
Connect your controller to the internet and sign in to Trimble Access using your Trimble ID.
-
Open or create a job in the Trimble Connect project.
-
Ensure that IBSS is selected as the base data link in the survey style settings.
-
Choose how you want to connect the base receiver to the internet, such as Wi-Fi or using the SIM card in the receiver.
-
Start a base survey, and Trimble Access will send the base corrections to the Trimble Connect project via the IBSS service.
Connecting a rover to the IBSS service is just as easy. Follow these steps:
-
Connect your controller to the internet and sign in to Trimble Access using your Trimble ID.
-
Open or create a job in the Trimble Connect project.
-
Ensure that IBSS is selected as the rover data link in the survey style settings.
-
Start the rover survey, and the software will display a list of base stations currently sending corrections to the Trimble Connect project.
-
Choose the base station you want to receive corrections from, and you're all set to start measuring or staking out.
Trimble Internet Base Station Service (IBSS), offers an efficient and streamlined way to transmit RTK corrections from a base station to rovers. IBSS is a versatile and reliable system that provides superior connectivity and range. The simple and straightforward steps to connect a base or rover receiver to IBSS delivers an effortless process to improve productivity on the job site. So why not give it a try in Trimble Access 2023.10?
