Kentucky State Police Expands Their Toolbox with Trimble X7 Laser Scanners

Frankfort, KY — A partnership between the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Kentucky State Police (KSP) led to the purchase of two Trimble X7 3D laser scanners to be utilized by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The instruments will be used to quickly produce high definition 3D laser scans of commercial motor vehicle crashes. The instruments will assist KSP with their quick clearance efforts to open the roadway after crashes. The Trimble X7 is a high-speed 3D laser scanning system that can produce between 12 million measurements in about less than 2 minutes and can capture high definition resolution panoramic images of crash scenes day or night and in all weather conditions. The system includes technological innovations such as: Automatic calibration to reduce annual costs and downtime, Self-leveling for reduced and easy set-up time at the scene, Trimble registration assist to reduce office processing time and High-sensitivity mode to effectively capture dark and reflective surfaces.
