Proper camera white balance has to take into account the color temperature of a light source, which refers to the relative warmth or coolness of white light. The Auto white balance correction is applied in the software and the indoor and outdoor presets are applied directly by the scanner. Here is a general guide for when to use each setting. Auto - recommended when lighting conditions are inconsistent Sunny - outdoors in bright sunlight Cloudy - outdoors on overcast days Fluorescent Cool White - indoors when bright fluorescent lighting is present Incandescent - indoors when more natural incandescent lighting is present
