Figure1:Miniaturizedinternalcollimatorisinthebase TheTrimbleX9auto-calibratesangularanddistancemeasurementssimilartohowcalibration equipmentisusedtocalibrate"standard"laserscanners,butonamuchsmallerscale. A miniaturizedinternalcollimatorlocatedinthebaseoftheinstrumentperformsfullangular calibrationsandaxiserrormeasurements.TheEDM(ElectronicDistanceMeasurement)scannerand thedeflectionunitareintegratedinsidethescanningcenterunit.Thedeflectionunitcontainsa high-speedmotorandanencodersystem.Locatedinthecenterunitisamirrorcapableof measuringthetrunnionaxiserror.Inaddition,astandardtotalstationverticaldriveandangle encodersystemisintegratedintothealidade,meaningthatthecompletecenterunit,includingthe deflectionunitandEDMsource,canberotatedaroundthetrunnionaxisinthemanner characteristicoftotalstations.
