Welcome to eCognition 10
The eCognition team is excited to announce the availability of eCognition 10! eCognition 10 has something for everyone: a variety of new tools and an overhaul of existing tools. Users of all levels, from novice to advanced, will enjoy the improvements of this new version.
Modernized Look & Feel
The most apparent change users will notice is the overhaul of the Developer UX, a first in the eCognition software history. With the integration of dark mode data jumps off the screen, context menus are easier to consume & the use of eCognition is more energy efficient! On top of this, all icons have been updated – a mammoth task given the depth of functionality within Developer.
Increased Usability & Accessibility
Another visible change users will experience is to the accessibility and usability of different tools. When starting the software, users will be greeted with a start screen that provides fast access to eCognition news, resources and recent Workspaces. Workspaces are now the standard organizational environment which provides direct access to batch processing and powerful data management tools for the interactive generation of subsets and tiles. Menus and toolbars have been optimized and simplified to decrease mouse paths and clicks – the tools most used are now even easier to reach!
Searchability has been standardized across tools to get users what they want faster, recently used features are at the tip of your fingers in the Feature View, browsing windows have a standard look & feel and the use of some our most common algorithms has been improved – 2 examples are:
1. Multiresolution Segmentation – the selection of input image layers has been made easier via a new selection menu. Users can select/deselect all or simply select several layers.
2. Merge region – Users no longer need to add a merge region algorithm for each class if they are merging image objects based on class. Now, they can simply use the “merge” parameter and select to merge image objects “by class”.
Expanded Data Handling Tools
Valuable pre-processing tools have been added to enable project front-end tasks directly within Developer and decrease the need for additional 3rd party applications.
Coordinate system management tools are available in Developer to support raster, vector and point cloud files. The user will be warned about projection conflicts upon import and prompted to re-project or assign projections automatically. In addition the tools can be used stand-alone to manage input data projections.
A new pre-defined import routine is available to support image tile stitching. It automatically creates a mosaic within the Project based on the pre-tiled. This allows users to quickly start working across tiles and apply new tiling schemes via the rule set for more flexible project conception.
Finally, a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm has been added to assist in the analysis of rich multispectral and hyperspectral data. And a color space transformation algorithm has been added which allows users to input HSI or HSV layers directly into segmentation algorithms.
Extended Processing Support
With version 10, the multicore beast has been released and users now have unconstrained use of multicore operations (i.e. Multiresolution segmentation) – 16, 32, 38/42 cores – the sky’s the limit! Users can simply define the number of cores to use in the “set rule set options” algorithm.
The use of point clouds has been improved through the introduction of caching, making point cloud visualization and navigation faster within the viewer.
The number of deliverable formats has been expanded to support both PostGIS and GeoPackage, improving open source integration.
New Cloud-Readiness Capabilities
As the cloud becomes an increasingly popular processing environment, the eCognition team is excited to introduce a new Docker container based eCognition Server setup that can be easily managed within various cloud systems. This is a great way to bring eCognition Server processing power to your cloud!
The Docker container images are already available in Docker Hub for both Windows and Linux environments!
Don't miss our webinar on Thursday, 12 November 2020, to find out about all the new features and improvements in the new version.
